Returned home yesterday from my Boston prostate adventure. All seems to have gone well. The doctor was happy with the outcome. He took some lymph nodes adjacent to the prostate and those tested negative for cancer cells on first analysis, suggesting the disease had not spread out of the prostate itself. We will have a full pathology report early next week but all signs no point to an effective treatment. That was my first and foremost goal and it seems to have come to pass.
The physical effects of the surgery itself are not terribly overwhelming: a lot of abdominal bloating, some soreness but not much real pain. I have a catheter, and will have it until next Tuesday, and that is little fun. But it is all fairly tolerable and I can already feel my body responding and working itself back into balance. Reminds me of passage 40 of the Daodejing:
and yielding the method of Way
All beneath heaven, the ten thousand things: it's all born of being,
and being is born of nonbeing.
If I yield to the circumstances, just let my body adjust, a certain balance will return, not the same as before, but balance nonetheless….
