I disappeared for a couple of days; went into New York City with my family to see a show (Gypsy with Patty Lupone – brilliant), to see some friends, to see the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and to see some art at the Met.  And the most striking art was some Chinese calligraphy and paintings.  I will post some photos here and below the fold.

    My favorite was a long, long scroll (60 feet!) by Huang Tingjian from the turn of the eleventh and twelfth centuries CE.   Some great, great cursive brush work.

     The exhibition was called "Anatomy of a Masterpiece" and the curators would somehow photograph and digitally enhance various details of specific paintings to allow for a finer vision and understanding, yielding images like this:
