US Begs For Chinese Money While Screaming About Tiananmen Square
    http://emsnews.wordpress.com/tag/china/
As Obama consults with the corrupt, despotic king of Saudi Arabia, Geithner and the rest of the US gang has been running about China on a major begging expedition. All the years I have run my news service, I note how the US is all arrogance towards the Chinese, at home, and then crawl on their bellies when they go over to visit their Masters. Today is the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. This year, the US, who suppresses any dissent with great brutality, slaps at China by passing a resolution condemning China for doing what the US would do, in similar circumstances.

Could you be more specific about this?

    yxx,
The photos are from Beijing, June 4th, 1989. The top one shows people dodging bullets fired from the PLA troops that stormed the city. The bottom photo shows Beijing citizens rushing one of their comrades to the hospital, after having been shot by soldiers.
We need to remember the movement and the violence that repressed it. We need to remember that a faction of top Party leaders (not all: Zhao Ziyang tried to prevent this) decided to use force against the citizens of Beijing. And we need to ask why that Party leadership continues to be fearful of its own history.

    Isha,
Please explain and give specific examples of the US dealing with domestic dissent with “great brutality” in recent times (as the tense of your phrase implies an ongoing practice). We’re all well aware of (and in many cases infuriated by) the many sins of the US, at home and (especially) abroad, but I’d like to see some evidence for your claim that seems so obviously absurd and contrary to reality.

    Sam,
Christie has some pictures up on her blog of how things looked in the square yesterday (we went). It was an odd visit for sure.

    Christopher:
Here is Elaine’s link I cut and copied:

US Begs For Chinese Money While Screaming About Tiananmen Square

Another Elaine’s comment on the same topic today:

Ron Paul’s Gives Sensible Speeches And Congress Kills HR 1207

I have to admit I don’t totally agree with Elaine’s blog, but I do second her observation that Ron Paul is one of few sober voices out there that have some common senses. He is the embodiment of the civil virtue and common decency of the Republic that I admire …
    Have a nice weekend

    Isha,
Neither of these linked pieces address my original question, about the US crushing any domestic dissent with great brutality, at all.
Like I said, I agree that the US has, in innumerable instances, acted horribly abroad. It has, not, however, acted in the way that the PRC government has against its own people in the last 60 years or so. I was asking for evidence of one specific and rather damning claim that you cite, and you have not provided any.

    Christopher,
There will be no evidence. It’s not about evidence, but merely ideology. Rather like 五毛党.

US Begs For Chinese Money While Screaming About Tiananmen Square

Today, the House passed H. Res. 489, a resolution recognizing the 20th anniversary of the brutal suppression of protesters and citizens in and around Tiananmen Square, expressing sympathy to the families of those killed, tortured, and imprisoned in connection with the protests, and calling for the Chinese government to conduct a fair investigation and to release those imprisoned for participating in the 1989 demonstrations.
This is just jaw-dropping! The US runs notorious prisons where prisoners are called ‘detainees’ and they are tortured and abused, yesterday, one of them managed to commit suicide to escape his tormentors. They never get put on trial or if they are, they are not allowed to mention years and years of torture. The US has photos of this torture which the President refuses to show.
The US sponsors despots all over the planet, we pay them to attack their own citizens and kill them. In Pakistan, millions of citizens were chased from their homes by troops paid by the US to attack Pakistanis. So much for ‘democracy’! The US keeps millions of Palestinians penned up into ghettos. Every penny spent on that horror is American.
It is much worse: Pelosi went trotting off to China to kiss Hu’s ring and beg for money! Then, just two days later, attacks him! If we imagine the Chinese don’t notice this craven sort of behavior, we are much mistaken!
It is even worse: imagine of a bunch of WWI soldiers were to camp out, exactly like the Chinese students, in the middle of DC, demanding bonuses they were given and needed to survive the Great Depression? And imagine if a top US general were to storm into these camps and kill people, burn the tents and drive out everyone, leaving them to starve to death due to lack of jobs? Eh?
Imagine hippie kids camping around the Pentagon, demanding they stop the War in Vietnam? Or even better: anti-WTO demonstrators walking in the streets rather than the sidewalks? ANYONE who dares to demonstrate in ANY way in the Soviet USA is either penned up into these Nazi-style prison sectors called ‘Free Speech Zones’ surrounded by heavily armed skin head cops, or they are outright tasered, beaten or shot.
The insanity of the US screaming at the Chinese for doing what our rulers do to us: hypocrisy!!! This is so stupid. I organized the Chinese students who started our little ‘Little Tiananmen Square’ encampment right in front of the UN, using the park attached to the Organization of African States as our camp. The government allowed us three days of this and then brusquely ordered me to close down the camp. I said, ‘We will but only after Bush gives all Chinese students in the US amnesty.’
The Chinese government was trying to get my students deported and I wouldn’t let them. Bush, while denouncing China in public, was secretly negotiating with them to remove the students and ship them back to China. I knew this information because of inside contacts in the Chinese politburo.
So I refused to back down. Mayor Koch came by and argued with me. Then, he sent the police in. I used CNN to record everything. I got some bus drivers to surround our camp with their buses as a barrier. I climbed into the doorway of a bus and said, ‘We will not go. You will have to kill me before anyone here is seized and shipped back to China.’ The police backed down.
Then, Senator D’Amato came to me and pleaded with me to stop. I refused. Finally, D’Amato went to Bush and explained, there was no way to get rid of me, the amnesty had to pass. So Bush did it. I was very happy. This was an EXCEPTIONAL situation: the US public would have howled if my camp was attacked by cops the exact same way the Chinese were doing it.
Since then, demonstrations like the one I organized, have been made virtually impossible. Anyone who tries this get hammered, instantly. And the media would not cover it except in rare cases. Mostly, the internet is the home of protests. The anger that seethes on the net can swiftly move to the streets. Pelosi should be ashamed of herself!
She has people who ask her questions, arrested! This BITCH has PROTESTORS who bother her, arrested! Anyone who is antiwar and camps on her doorstep is CRUSHED. Senator Kerry stood blandly by while a student, questioning him about the Real Rulers, was viciously repeatedly tasered in Florida. Pah. This just utterly disgusts me.

Ron Paul on Tiananmen Resolution: Let’s Tend to Our Own House
June 3, 2009 in Antiwar movement, News by Eric Garris | 39 comments
Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) delivered this on the House floor this afternoon:
I rise to oppose this unnecessary and counter-productive resolution regarding the 20th anniversary of the incident in China’s Tiananmen Square. In addition to my concerns over the content of this legislation, I strongly object to the manner in which it was brought to the floor for a vote. While the resolution was being debated on the House floor, I instructed my staff to obtain a copy so that I could read it before the vote. My staff was told by no less than four relevant bodies within the House of Representatives that the text was not available for review and would not be available for another 24 hours. It is unacceptable for Members of the House of Representatives to be asked to vote on legislation that is not available for them to read!
As to the substance of the resolution, I find it disturbing that the House is going out of its way to meddle in China’s domestic politics, which is none of our business, while ignoring the many pressing issues in our own country that definitely are our business.
This resolution “calls on the People’s Republic of China to invite full and independent investigations into the Tiananmen Square crackdown, assisted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross…” Where do we get the authority for such a demand? I wonder how the US government would respond if China demanded that the United Nations conduct a full and independent investigation into the treatment of detainees at the US-operated Guantanamo facility?
The resolution “calls on the legal authorities of People’s Republic of China to review immediately the cases of those still imprisoned for participating in the 1989 protests for compliance with internationally recognized standards of fairness and due process in judicial proceedings.” In light of US government’s extraordinary renditions of possibly hundreds of individuals into numerous secret prisons abroad where they are held indefinitely without charge or trial, one wonders what the rest of the world makes of such US demands. It is hard to exercise credible moral authority in the world when our motto toward foreign governments seems to be “do as we say, not as we do.”
While we certainly do not condone government suppression of individual rights and liberties wherever they may occur, why are we not investigating these abuses closer to home and within our jurisdiction? It seems the House is not interested in investigating allegations that US government officials and employees approved and practiced torture against detainees. Where is the Congressional investigation of the US-operated “secret prisons” overseas? What about the administration’s assertion of the right to detain individuals indefinitely without trial? It may be easier to point out the abuses and shortcomings of governments overseas than to address government abuses here at home, but we have the constitutional obligation to exercise our oversight authority in such matters. I strongly believe that addressing these current issues would be a better use of our time than once again condemning China for an event that took place some 20 years ago.

THE POSTS OF ISHA (who is quickly becoming a parody of himself)
    Part 1 – WHY
Theory 1 – In isha’s view, any criticism of PRC government is an attempt to destroy China. Isha’s role in life is to prevent this. He reminds me of some guy named David Chiang who use to post similar stuff on Brad Setser’s blog. This similarity includes his obsessive hatred of the Wall Street elite (especially the odious Robert Rubin).
Note, I think this hatred is beneficial for mankind and, thus, I support it. But also note that supporting the criticism of American bad behavior does not imply supporting the defense of Chinese bad behavior.
Theory 2 – Or maybe it’s just his job.
    PART 2 – HOW
Isha often defends egregious behavior by the PRC government by attacking the US government and US institutions. Usually this includes accusations of hypocrisy and is ‘backed up’ by huge amounts of cut and paste from various places.
It makes little logical sense but I suppose isha thinks it is effective. Maybe it’s effective because our government and institutions are filled with a bunch of hypocrites. Nevertheless, hypocrisy doesn’t make the bad behavior of others good behavior.
